Back acne treatment mainly consists of two categories of treatment methods namely: medical treatment and natural remedies. In this blog we are going to take a closer look at back acne and the various ways to treat it.
Back acne closely resembles facial acne only that it is slightly more difficult to eliminate. Basically, both types of acne develop due to the clogging of the skin pores as a result of excessive secretion of sebum from the sebaceous glands. This blockage facilitates for the accumulation of bacteria which cause skin inflammation and reddening. Back acne (and other forms of acne) can be attributed to stress, consumption of oily foods, excessive sweating or even in some cases heredity factors. Eliminating back acne requires lots of patience as it might take some time before the prescribed medication actually responds.
Back Acne Treatment
Mild cases of back acne can be treated by application of alpha hydroxyl acids and salicylic acids. For more advanced cases of acne, benzoyl peroxide can be applied together with alpha hydroxyl acids. If you are going to purchase any skin care product for this condition, please ensure that it has at least 10% alpha hydroxyl (for mild cases) or at least 10% benzonyl peroxide (for moderate cases). For severe back acne cases, accutane and antibiotics are always a good treatment. However, this form of medication should be taken as a prescription from a qualified physician (not as an over-the-counter or home remedy).
Along with the medical back acne therapy, it is important to maintain good personal hygiene. It is advisable to start using antibacterial soap to wash your back on a daily basis.
On a regular basis, you can also exfoliate you skin by using a washcloth or a soft loofah to scrub your back gently. This helps get rid of all the dead skin cells helping you prevent the buildup of dirt and bacteria on your back skin. After doing this, you should apply a moisturizer. It is always advisable to go for a water based moisturizer instead of an oil based one.
After cleaning your skin, you can dry up your skin using a soft terry cloth towel. Afterwards you can apply a cream or gel depending on the extent of your problem. Let this cream sit on your skin for some time (at least 2 hours) after which you clean it off using lukewarm water or a gentle cleanser.
By following this treatment for a few weeks, you’ll be in a position to start noticing positive results. At the same time, during the entire treatment period it is advisable to desist from wearing tight clothes or rubbing your back against any surface (including the bed). It is also important to keep all your personal effects (more so the towels, the top cloths and bed sheets) as clean as possible to avoid cases of re-infection.
