Acne is a common skin disease characterised by the formation of pimples and spots. It occurs when the pores become blocked with dead skin and excess oil.
Acne forms mainly on the back, face, chest and shoulders as these are the areas of the body with the densest population of oil producing follicles.
It most typically occurs during adolescence, as this is when an increase in testosterone levels occur which in turn causes the skin to produce more oil.
Once adolescence has passed, acne tends to abate, although it can continue into adulthood. While not a serious disease, acne can be distressing for sufferers and cause self-esteem issues. However, it is not too difficult to find an effective back acne treatment.
